Welcome to Squirrels
We ask parents and carers to return the home / school diary each day, as this
will enable the class teacher to provide comments and information about your
child’s day in school. If there are particular things you wish to be informed about,
please speak with me.
Individual Education Plan(IEP’s)
This plan sets out educational targets that your child is working on for the term.
There is a section in the plan which provides parents and carers with activities
or tasks you can do at home to support your child’s learning. Plans are updated
each term and sent home.
(As we are not sending reading books home at the moment due to COVID then
some links and ideas to promote reading at home)
All children and young people are encouraged to engage in reading and develop
a love of stories. We have a wide range of reading books, sensory books and big
books to support the learning styles and levels for each child. Every Friday, your
child will receive a new reading book. Please encourage your child to engage
with the characters and stories.
Some pupils will receive homework in English and Maths to support their
learning. If your child is finding homework a challenge please come into school
so we can discuss it together.
This half term we have been listening to rhyming stories. We have listened to Room on the Broom, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Cinderella and The Gruffalo. We have been working hard to improve our handwriting, communication and our ability to spot rhyming words. We have acted out scenes from the stories and watched films in relation to the stories.
This half term we have been looking at shapes. We have been working really hard to identify shapes and their properties. We have been on shape hunts and played games on Education City. We have handled 2D shapes and built pictures using certain shapes. We have really enjoyed listening to shape songs and watching the Monster Truck Shape Jump Challenge video.
This month we have been working and learning about improving our mental health. The whole month has been called "Rainbow Month". We have completed a number of activities to help us stay happy and healthy. We do yoga every morning, we have made healthy fruit kebabs, completed random acts of kindness and watched the movie "Inside Out" which focuses on emotions.
