Welcome to the Otters

Welcome to the Otters class, in the primary department of Rowan Park School.   We are a lively and friendly Key Stage 2 class of nine pupils, and we love learning!   We hope you find our class page a useful source of information and enjoy finding out about what we have been up to during our busy days here!

This half term, we have been continuing to work on our numeracy and literacy skills through a variety of different methods.   Sometimes we have learnt through play or sensory experience, and sometimes we have really concentrated looking at number and letter work independently.   We have also completed some fun seasonal work over the Hallowe'en/Bonfire Night period!

General Information:

We ask parents and carers to return the home/school diary each day, as this will enable the class teacher to provide comments and information about your child's day in school.   If there are particular things you wish to be informed about, please speak with me.

Individual Education Plan (IEP's):

This plan sets out educational targets that your child is working on for the term.   There is a section in the plan which provides parents and carers with activities or tasks you can do at home to support your child's learning.   Plans are updated each term and sent home.

Reading Books:

All children and young people are encouraged to engage in reading and develop a love of stories.   We have a wide range of reading books, sensory books and big books to support the learning styles and levels for each child.   Every Friday, your child will receive a new learning book.   Please encourage your child to engage with the characters and stories.

Some pupils will receive homework in English and Maths to support their learning.   If your child is finding homework a challenge please come into school so we can discuss it together.

P.E. sessions take place each week on a Tuesday afternoon.   Please ensure a full P.E. kit is brought to school and that items are clearly labelled to avoid confusion.

Swimming sessions are scheduled separately for a Monday morning, and we aim to be in the pool as regularly as we can!

Other topics in P.E. this term have included movement and balance; recently we enjoyed setting up obstacle courses in the hall, and we all found it quite amusing trying to catch each other as we made our way around the course!

We do cookery every Monday afternoon.

(Please let us know if your child has any food allergies).

We love baking in the Otters class, be it cakes, biscuits or even our own bread, and we often make items based around a theme...Hallowe'en cupcakes, Christmas biscuits etc.   We also enjoy learning simple snack preparation techniques, and this happens on a daily basis.

Otters have started a breakfast club. The pupils pick their favourite cereal at snack times. As you can see we have some very hungry Otters!
