Summer Term 2

WOW where has this yer gone?! We have been so busy learning new things and making new friends that the year has just flown by! For our last half term are topic is all about 'The Jungle'. What animals live in the Jungle? What noises do they make? These will be some of the questions that we will be answering in some exciting lessons this term. In English, as well as working as hard as ever on our writing, we will be reading books all about The Jungle and Jungle animals, these will include, Dear Zoo, Walking through the Jungle and Rumble in the Jungle! In Maths our focus will be on shapes - 2D and 3D. What are the shapes names and how many corners or lines do each different one have? We've got Healthy eating week too this term, so we will be learning all about healthy foods and maybe even giving them a little taste! Summer Term

For the first part of our summer term, we are going to learning all about Minibeasts. We will be reading some amazing books, such as 'The Hungry Caterpillar' and the 'The Very Busy Spider'. We will also be inviting some real Caterpillars into our class and watching as they turn into beautiful butterflies. 'The Hungry Caterpillar' has some lovely links to other subjects such as Maths, so we'll be doing lots of counting and even making some fruit salad. We will be going to our Forest School and going on a bug hunt with our magnifying glasses. Where do minibeasts live and how many different kinds can we find? It's only a short term but we've got lots of activities planned and hopefully some will include being outside in sunshine!

General Information

Home School Dairies

We ask families and carers to return the Home School diary each day, as this will enable the class staff to provide comments and information about you child's day in school. If there are particular things you wish to be informed about, please speak with the class teacher.

Individual Education Plans

These set out the priority educational targets that your child is working on for the term. IEPs are updated each term and sent home. If there is anything that you would particular like us to be working on please just let us know.

Reading Books

All children and young people are encouraged to engage in reading and develop a love of stories. We have a wide range of reading books, sensory books and big books to support the learning style and levels for each child. Every Friday, your child will receive a new reading book and this will be sent home with them to enjoy with you over the weekend. Please encourage your child to engage with the characters and stories and fill in the reading record to let your child'd class staff know how they have gotten on and the please return to school on the Monday morning.

Magic Moment Books

Your child will also be sent home a Magic Moments Book. This is an exciting way to share all the wonderful things that your child does at home. Its also a way to record special moments, anything that your child does for the first time and anything that they enjoy doing. We would also love it if you could send the book back in at the end of a half term or after a holiday so that we could share your child's amazing achievements.

Class Funds

We kindly request that you send in £2 a week. This contributes to any weekly resources that class might need.

St Nicolas Primary School, Blundellsands

We also have a special link with St Nicolas Primary School in Blundellsands. 2 or 3 Friday afternoons each half term we visit their reception class. It's a lovely link and both schools and children gain so much from the visits.
