We hope that you enjoy looking at our class page during the year. We are a lovely class and enjoy being busy and learning new things. Each half term we will focus and learn about different topics within our subjects This year our lessons will include English, Maths and Phonics, our Theme afternoon (which will incorporate History and Geography and Art & DT), Science, Computing, PSHE, Swimming, PE, Cookery and all the other wonderful things that come up throughout the year. We will also continue to develop our communication, through a mixture of verbal language, PECS and signing. What a fantastic time we are going to have!!

The Ladybirds Class
Welcome to the Summer Term in Ladybirds. As usual we have lots of interesting topics and new skills to learn.
Our English theme this term is learning all about rhyming words. We will be reading lots of books that contain rhyming words. There are lots of books by Dr Seuss, Roald Dahl that we will be reading as well as 'This is the Bear', 'Moose on the Loose', 'Duck in the Truck' and 'Chicka Chicka Boom Boom'. We will continue to complete learning activities associated with our IEP targets as well as keeping up with our Total Communication Skills, that we use to join in and answer questions during lessons and ask for things that we want.
We've all got new IEP targets this term, that we are excited to learn all about in our 1:1 sessions. Our whole class topic is Measurement and we will be looking specifically at temperature. Lets hope this doesn't effect the weather this summer!
Our Theme topic this term is learning all about 'People who help us'. We can't wait to learn all about the different people in our school and community that help us, how they help us and what they do in their jobs. There will be lots of dressing up (and great photos) as well as some community visits to see people in action.
We will be learning all about Plants in science. We will be exploring and learning all about the different parts of a plant, how to look after them, how to plant them and what plants need to stay alive.
P.E. and Swimming:
As well as our usual weekly PE and Swimming sessions, we will also be preparing for our Summer Sports Day!
Happy New Year!! It is only a short term this time round but we think that we can learn lots of new things!!
Here is what we will be doing in our different subjects:
Our shared class storybooks will be themed around 'Africa' this half term so we will be reading books such as 'Handa's Surprise', ‘Handa's Hen' and 'Monkey and Me'. We will also have other books in our Reading Corner that will also be linked to Africa - fiction and no-fiction. During the 2nd part of the term we will be reading storybooks all about building and construction. Books such as 'The three little pigs', 'Construction Site, Construction Site' and 'Down at the Construction Site'. As usual we will use many different resources to bring the stories alive. We wonder what they will be?!!!. We will be encouraged to join in with the stories in our own way – remembering what has happened or is going to happen, discussing and naming what is happening in the pictures. We will be encouraged to use symbols, objects, words and language to join in and give our answers. We will also be working on our fine motor control and mark making as well as our Individual Education Plan English Targets.
Our overall weekly topics this half term are Patterns, Money & Number. We will be continuing to develop our maths skills through a combination of our Individual Education Plan targets for Maths, small group work and exploration of maths resources.
Our Theme topic this half term is 'Going to the Countryside'. We will be exploring and learning about physical and human features in our local environment. We might even visit a farm!
We love swimming in Ladybirds so we will keeping trying to improve our independence and kicking skills in the water as well as how to be safe. During our PE sessions this half term we will be taking part in DANCE yes Dance topics!!! Watch this space! We might even put a video up! We will also be taking part in Judo sessions on a Thursday morning.
This half term, we will be investigating Forces as our science topic. I'm sure we'll be doing a lot of pushing and pulling and learning all about different movements and observe the effects on different materials. We will also be trying out different sorts of movements and what they are called.
We will be looking at understanding our emotions and taking part in self regulation activities.

Autumn Term 2
This term is all about Christmas, oh and we will be looking at 'Night & Day' topic in our shared stories! In science we will be investigating 'Materials and their Properties'
Here is what we will be doing in our different subjects:
Our shared class storybooks will be 'The Toy’s Party', ‘The Wobbly Tooth', 'Funny Bones' and ‘From Head to Toe’. We will also have other books in our Reading Corner to look at and engage with about our five senses and emotions. We will use many different resources to bring the stories alive such as puppets and the actual food in The Toy’s Party. We will be encouraged to join in with the stories in our own way – remembering what has happened or is going to happen, discussing and naming what is happening in the pictures. We will also be working on our fine motor control and mark making as well as our Individual Education Plan English Targets.
We will be continuing to develop our maths skills through a combination of our Individual Education Plan targets for Maths, small group work and exploration of maths resources.
Our overall focus this half term is measurement – length and mass.
theme afternoon this half term is Ourselves. It is based around the History topic ‘The Passage of Time – Me’ and ‘Toys and Games - Mine, My Parents and Grandparents’. Theme will also incorporate art and design. We will be looking at how we have grown and changed over the years and will be looking at pictures of what we looked like as babies. We will also be looking at toys and how they have changed. Maybe making our toys!
We love swimming in Ladybirds so we will keeping trying to improve our independence and kicking skills in the water. During our PE sessions, we will continue to work on our coordination and balance, jumping and throwing and catching.
We will also be incorporating our Ourselves topic and will be exploring and using our senses, looking at features of the human face and parts of the body as well as different ways we can move our bodies. We will also start to look at the differences between animals and humans.
We will be learning about developing a healthy and safer lifestyle. We will be learning and developing our self-help skills such washing, teeth cleaning and toilet routines.
