Welcome to the Butterflies

 Welcome to the Butterflies

This half term we have been welcoming pupils back into class and enjoying familiar activities such as our hello communication sessions and improving our communication skills signing, using pictures and symbols. We have been continuing with our phonics sessions each day and working on our reading skills. We have been working on our targets in maths and have been looking at feelings and making worry monsters with sensory feathers and collage materials. It has been amazing how our pupils have returned and settled into our routines in class. We have been matching 2-D shapes in maths and exploring shapes in foam. We have listened to number rhymes and been counting sets to 5 and 10. Our theme Superhero's has been popular and we have tried on different superhero cloaks, made masks and Captain America shields. We have listened to 10 Little Superhero's story and counted the hero's on each page.

P.E. sessions take place each week. Please ensure full P.E. kit is brought to school and items are clearly labelled to avoid confusion.Swimming will take place each week and pupils will be on a rota system. We have been developing our skills in outdoor area using large equipment such as cars, bikes and climbing frames. We have also been using large gym balls and encouraged throwing and catching skills in outdoor area.

We do cookery every week and will be developing a variety of different skills in lessons. Please let us know if your child has any allergies. Pupils will be developing mixing skills and chopping skills making rainbow smoothies and icing superhero cakes linked to theme.Pupils will be encouraged to work independently and to develop key life skills.

All pupils in class take part in an enterprise activity each term. Enterprise supports children and young people to use their numeracy and literacy skills in a different context. This term we will be making and selling crafts for Christmas.

General Information

We ask parents and carers to return home/school diaries each day as this will enable the class teacher to provide comments and information about your child's day in school. If there are particular things you wish to be informed about, please speak with me.

Individual Education Plan (IEP's)

This plan sets out educational targets that your child is working on for the term. There is a section in the plan which provides parents and carers with activities or tasks you can do at home to support your child's learning. Plans are updated each term and sent home.

Reading Books

All children and young people are encouraged in reading and develop a love of stories. We have a wide range of reading books, sensory books and big books to support learning styles and levels for each child. Every Friday your child will receive a new reading book. Please encourage your child to engage with the characters and stories. We are not currently sending reading books home due to COVID but Oxford Owls have free resources and books for pupils and you tube  have a great variety of stories, some read by authors. There will be some links on blended learning section too.

Some pupils will receive home work in English and Maths to support their learning. If your child is finding homework a challenge please contact school so we can discuss this together.

Home Learning/Blended Learning

We will be regularly updating work linked to curriculum for blended learning including phonics work, book links, websitelinks and activities for home.
