Welcome to Bumblebees !
Bumblebees are a fun loving, energetic and enthusiastic class that love to learn new exciting things. We have already had lots of fun exploring a range of themes and lessons, enabling us all to build relationships and explore new friendships. We hope you enjoy looking at our page and seeing all our lovely photos!
I know some of you are learning from home at the moment and everyone at Rowan Tree misses you! If there is anything that you need do, not hesitate to contact us.

Spring Term 1
Curriculum
This half term we are continuing to explore and learn new things focusing upon number of topis. This half term our topic will be 'Where does snow go?'
At home have you played in the snow or felt the ice? When you hold the snow in your hands what happens?
Literacy
In Literacy the books we will cover this half term are, 'Polar bear, Polar bear what do you hear?' 'Snowball ' and 'The stick man'. Sensory props, food, songs and puppets will be used to encourage the children to engage with the stories. We will be exploring the outdoors looking at the weather and what happens when it snows and where does this go. All our stories are themed around the topic we are exploring this half term.
The third book we will be exploring is 'The stick man' On the website is a video of the story that you can watch and read with your family.
Here are some activities you can do whilst at home relating to the story! When reading the story to enhance the children's learning, miss out a word of the story, turn the book upside down, who are the main characters?, where is the stick man?

Maths
In Maths we will be focusing on 3D shapes. . We will look at songs, props, objects of different temperatures, counting our favourite objects/ toys, as well as looking at shapes in a number of ways. We will use lots of messy play when exploring shapes and make lots of winter animals using a variety of shapes. We will also look at number formation, practicing our fine motor skills, writing numbers in the sand/ wet sand, cornflour and water as well as porridge oats.
Theme
During our topic lessons we will be looking at objects that float or sink.
We will explore how objects float or sink. Looking at a range of objects and making predications if they will float on top of the water or sink to the bottom.
Now we have looked at floating and sinking objects. It is time for our science experiment! Below you will find a guide of things that float or sink. We can not wait to hear how your science experiment went and how you wet you and your family might of got!
Phonics
At Rowan tree we follow the Read, Write, Inc scheme when teaching phonics.
Can you find toys, food, animals or objects around your house that have these sounds at the beginning of them? We also practice writing the sound in a number of ways. You can use paint, chalk, flour, rice, pen and paper.
Week 1 - c (cat, cake, coat)
Week 2 - k (king, kitten, kite)
Week 3 - u (umbrella, upset, under)
Week 4 - b (boot, ball, book)
week 5 - f (fish, feet, flowers)
P.E.
Sessions take place each Thursday Afternoon for Bumblebees class. please ensure a full PE kit is brought to school and that items are clearly labelled to avoid confusion. This half term we are looking at pace and movement. Here are some ideas you could try at home:
We will also be continuing to work on our Yoga skills, following instructions and controlling our body movements on a Monday afternoon.
Cookery
We do cookery every Friday morning, please let us know if your child has any food allergies, and this half term we will be looking at baking and cooking in line with our topic. Our topic this week has been around PSHE, looking our emotions and feelings. So why not join the two together and make some pizza faces!

Autumn Term 2
Curruculum
This half term we are continuing to explore and learn new things focusing upon number of topis. This half term our topic will be 'Why do leaves go crispy?
Literacy
In Literacy the books we will cover this half term are, 'pumpkin soup', ' 'Father Christmas needs a Wee!' and 'Dear Santa'. Sensory props, food, songs and puppets will be used to encourage the children to engage with the stories.
Maths
In Maths we will be focusing on colours, looking at primary colours and mixing colours. As well as number and counting. We will also be working on our Maths boxes to consolidate our learning.
Theme
During our topic lessons we will be looking at seasons and weather. We will have lots of weather activities in class, with leaf printing, indoor snowballs and maybe a water spray, the children will look to find the appropriate clothes and items for each type of weather and what happens in the environment in each of the seasons. We will also be looking at animals this half term, especially squirrels, birds and hedgehogs. During our themed lessons we will be making fat balls for the birds to eat.
PE
P.e. sessions take place each Thursday Afternoon for Bumblebees class. please ensure a full PE kit is brought to school and that items are clearly labelled to avoid confusion.
Our topics for PE this half term will be gymnastics, practising making large movements with ribbons and hoops and maybe a forward roll or two. We will also be continuing to work on our Yoga skills, following instructions and controlling our bodie movements on a Monday afternoon.
Cookery
We do cookery every Friday morning, please let us know if your child has any food allergies, and this half term to continue with our autumn topic and we will be making hedgehog bread, pinwheels and of course lots of Christmas food and drinks.

Autumn Term 1
Curriculum
Welcome back bumblebees.
This half term our topic will be 'Why can't we eat chocolate for breakfast?'. Exploring a range of foods and themes around healthy eating.
Literacy
In Literacy the books we will cover this half term are, 'Marvellous me', Handa's Surprise' and 'Brown bear, brown bear what do you see?'. Throughout all of our stories we use sensory props, food, songs and puppets. This encourages the children to engage with the stories, in a fun exciting way.
Maths
In Maths our theme has been big and small. We will explore big and small, hands, feet, pupils, toys and boxes. We learn through developing our investigation skills and exploring new mathematical terminology and having fun along the way.
Theme
During our topic lessons we will be looking at healthy eating, growing up and making good choices. This will give us the opportunity to get to know the world around us better. Exploring our senses through smell, touch and taste. Looking at our favourite fruits by tasting the rainbow.
PE
P.e. sessions take place each Thursday Afternoon for Bumblebees class. Please ensure children come into school in a full PE kit and that items are clearly labelled to avoid confusion. Our topics for PE this half term will be catching skills and balance. We will begin to take turns balancing using benches, throwing and catching balls and bean bags, using a variety of equipment.
Cookery
We do cookery every Friday morning, please let us know if your child has any food allergies. This half term to continue with our healthy life theme we will be making fruit salad, fruit faces, healthy pizza faces and exploring healthy vs unhealthy foods. We will encouraging independent chopping skills along with turn taking and sharing.
General Information
We ask parents and carers to return the home/school diary each day, as this will enable the class teacher to provide comments and information about your child's day at school. If there are particular things you wish to be informed about, please speak to your class teacher.
Individual Education plans (IEP's)
This plan sets out educational targets that your child is working on for the term. There is a section in the plan which provides families and carers with activities or tasks you can do at home to support your child's learning. Plans are updated each term and sent home.
Reading books
(As we are not sending reading books home at the moment due to Covid please check out the home learning/ blended learning area of this page for some links to stories)
All children and young people are encouraged to engage in reading and developing a love of stories. We have a wide range of reading books, sensory books and big books to support the learning styles and levels for each child. Every Friday, your child will receive a reading book. Please encourage your child to engage with the characters and stories.
Class funds
We kindly request that you send in £2 a week. This contributes to any weekly resources such as sensory, cooking and snack that class might need.
