Welcome to our Key Stage 2 class page
We love to learn in the Badgers and we will regularly update our class page so you can keep up to date with all of our exciting activities and amazing adventures. We like to get messy in the Badgers and enjoy our sensory time. We enjoy practical activities particularly during our Numeracy lessons.
This half term our topic is The Tudors. We are learning all about how The Tudor's lived, what they did for fun, how they dressed, what they ate and where they lived. We have made our own family crests, baked bread and learnt all about Henry VIII and his many wives.
In Science we are still on the topic of electricity, we have been looking at making circuits which has been lots of fun.
Our topic for Numeracy is weight and length, we have enjoyed having ourselves weighed and measured and ordering these as well as using scales and lots of water.
During our Literacy sessions we are reading The Smartest Giant in Town and The Boy in The Dress.
This term our topic is Coast to Coast. We will be learning all about what it is like to live in the countryside and what it is like living in the city and comparing the similarities and differences.
In science we are learning all about electricity and how we can use electrical appliances safely.
Our art lessons are all about natural resources so we will be getting messy using mud and different items we can find outside to make art.
In Literacy we are reading The Boy in the Dress and The Snail and the Whale.
In Numeracy are topic this half term is statistics so we are asking lots of questions and making graphs to display our data as well as doing lots of sorting and classifying.
This half term our topic is "The Great Fire of London." In History we are looking at how houses are different now to the 1600s. Our Science lessons are all about materials; what materials are good for different purposes and how materials are made. We have also linked this to our Cookery lessons and we are practicing our baking skills just like the Bakery in Pudding Lane.
Our focus for Numeracy this half term is Number, we have been practicing our counting and recognising numbers. Some of us in the Badgers have even been working on place value and sequencing.
This half term in Literacy we have read We Are Going On a Bear Hunt and Rainbow Fish, whilst some of us are working on Matilda by Roald Dahl.
Home School Diaries
We ask parents and carers to return the home school diary each day, as this will enable the class teacher to provide comments and information about your child's day in school. If there are particular things you wish to be informed about, please speak with the class teacher.
Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
This plan sets out educational targets that your child is working on for the term. There is a section in the plan which provides parents and carers with activities or tasks you can do at home to support your child's learning. Plans are updated each term and sent home.
All children and young people are encouraged to engage in reading and develop a love of stories. We have a wide range of reading books, sensory books and big books to support the learning styles and levels for each child. Every Friday, your child will receive a new reading book. Please encourage your child to engage with the characters and stories.
Some pupils will receive homework in English and Maths to support their learning. If your child is finding homework a challenge please come into school so we can discuss it together.
We kindly ask that you send in £2 each week. This contributes to snack and cookery ingredients that we use each week.
P.E sessions take place on a Monday morning. Please ensure a full P.E kit is brought to school and that items are clearly labelled to avoid confusion.
Swimming sessions take place on Tuesday afternoon. Please ensure a swimming costume and towel are sent in.
Horse riding sessions take place every other Tuesday afternoon. Girls must wear trousers.
Our topics this half term are ball skills. We are working on our throwing and catching and applying this to game situations.
