Welcome to Secondary 4!

S4 is part of the Secondary department within Rowan Park School. We consist of 9 pupils, 1 teacher and 2 teaching assistants. We love learning new things at school and work very hard every day, we laugh a lot and have lots of fun.

S4 competed in a local indoor athletics competition within the local community. We ran and jumped through and over obstacles. We were jumping and throwing as far as we can. We had a lot of fun and met lots of new people. Have a look at our photos and see how much fun we had and how hard we tried.

In Numeracy we have been learning about statistics in practical lessons involving gathering data to create tally charts, pictographs and bar charts e.g. friends eye colour and favourite pets.

In Literacy our focus has been Myths and Legends. We have thoroughly enjoyed this topic and especially liked 'The Sword in the Stone' story. We had great fun creating swords and being knighted!

Our Science topic this term is 'The Seasons' we have explored different seasons and analysed the changes in weather and how this effects the environment and ourselves.

We have been practising really hard for our trip to St Georges Hall where we will be performing in 'The Narnia Experience' alongside 'Another Place'... Come and join our magical performance!

S4 would like to say a big thank you to all the staff at Sefton Meadows and the Bakers Dozen. We had a great day as you can see by our lovely photographs below.

  • In Science we are blasting off into outer space learning about the different planets and their atmospheres. Then we creating our own rockets and trying to send them to a chosen planet.
  • This term we have started our Enterprise scheme, S4’s soup kitchen. Every Tuesday we create a new delicious soup including tomato and basil and carrot and coriander. All pupils will get to experience different job roles including, taking orders, cooking and preparing the soup, delivering the soup and collecting money. Profits will help fund fun and exciting class trips! We are also creating ‘I believe bells’ for our Christmas enterprise.

Autumn 1:

This half term we have...

  • In Numeracy we have been looking at number. We have been having lots of fun working on the interactive whiteboard and completing numeracy challenges. We have also been working hard with addition and subtraction sums.
  • In Literacy this half term we have been looking at the book ‘Funny Bones’. We spent time describing the skeletons house and what happened to the dog skeleton when he hit a tree! We labelled a skeleton and spelt the major body parts. For the Harvest festival everybody in the class created a passage or poem which they thought represented Harvest time. On a Monday we practice our letter formation which helps us with our hand writing skills.
  • In Science we have had lots of fun with different experiments looking at solids, liquids and gases. We have created Lava Lamps and blew up a balloon without touching it!

General Information

We ask parents and carers to return the home / school diary each day, as this will enable the class teacher to provide comments and information about your child’s day in school. If there are particular things you wish to be informed about, please speak with me.

Individual Education Plan(IEP’s)

This plan sets out educational targets that your child is working on for the term.  There is a section in the plan which provides parents and carers with activities or tasks you can do at home to support your child’s learning.   Plans are updated each term and sent home.

Reading Books

All children and young people are encouraged to engage in reading and develop a love of stories.  We have a wide range of reading books, sensory books and big books to support the learning styles and levels for each child.  Every Friday, your child will receive a new reading book. Please encourage your child to engage with the characters and stories.

Some pupils will receive homework in English and Maths to support their learning.  If your child is finding homework a challenge please come into school so we can discuss it together.

P .E. sessions take place each Monday. Our topics this term are; Ball skills, Team games, Athletics and Gymnastics.  Please ensure a full P.E. kit is brought to school and that items are clearly labelled to avoid confusion. Swimming sessions take place every two weeks on a Wednesday morning at The Meadows.

We do cookery every Wednesday; please let us know if your child has any food allergies. This term we are learning about Christmas treats, focusing of different cooking techniques for cakes and biscuits. We will also be looking at different ways to decorate the treats using lots of methods. So far they have been delicious. Yum yum!
