Hope you all had a great Christmas! The staff in Helvellyn would like to wish you all the very best for the year 2021
My name is Peter and I'm the class teacher in Helvellyn. The support staff in Helvellyn are Lynsey and Claire.. Danny comes in to support us during lunch time.
I hope you are all well, safe and keeping busy at home.
We've got lots of interesting activities planned for this term but our priority is keeping everyone safe and well in class and at home!!
I realise that this term is challenging because of the changes in school due to the corona virus restrictions.
However, I intend to provide your child with enough work to keep them busy at home. I will also providing appropriate work linked to our current topics
I will be updating work and some activity ideas for you to do at home on a weekly basis!
Also this week, I will put up some new photographs for you to look at. Hope you enjoyed our Christmas power point.
Have you got your free trial for Twinkl yet? It is completely free to use for 4 weeks, you can download worksheets, activities, workbooks and lots more. Set up a new account here www.twinkl.co.uk/offer and enter the code 'CVDTWINKLHELPS' when asked.
Here are some additional ideas to support your child's learning:
Look at books!
Cook and practice independent living skills. Talk about the recipe and ingredients. Describe and comment on what you are doing. This is a perfect activity to introduce verbs like: mix, pour, grate, melt, spread, etc...
Gardening activities (make a bird feeder as seen below) plant some seeds! Dig up some weeds.
Play ‘Memory Game’. Place 5-6 objects on a table, name them with your child. Then cover them with a cloth or scarf. Ask your child to close their eyes, so you can remove one object. Check if your child can remember which object is missing.
Repeated patterns using household items, can you copy the pattern?
Use your sensory packs sent home to make some sensory items such as; playdough, slime, gloop. I have attached a 'calm down sensory bottles' instruction sheet also as some guidance!
Home School Diaries
We ask parents and carers to return the home school diary each day, as this will enable the class teacher to provide comments and information about your child's day in school. If there are particular things you wish to be informed about, please speak with the class teacher.
Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
This plan sets out educational targets that your child is working on for the term. There is a section in the plan which provides parents and carers with activities or tasks you can do at home to support your child's learning. Plans are updated each term and sent home.
We kindly ask that you send in £2 each week. This contributes to snack and cookery ingredients that we use each week.
We do cookery on a Thursday morning. Please let us know if your child has any food allergies.
pupils in the class take part in an enterprise activity each week/half term/term. Enterprise support children and young people to use their numeracy and literacy skills in a different context
Over the next few days/weeks I will be putting up lots of information and activities for your child to learn at home.
I will also put up plans and a revised timetable for this term.
Wake Up and Shake Up!
Don't forget to wake up and shake up each morning.....
