After our Harvest festival assembly we donated food to the Salvation Army and Local Food bank.

General Information

We ask parents and carers to return the home / school diary each day, as this will enable the class teacher to provide comments and information about your child’s day in school. If there are particular things you wish to be informed about, please speak with me.

Individual Education Plan(IEP’s)

This plan sets out educational targets that your child is working on for the term.  There is a section in the plan which provides parents and carers with activities or tasks you can do at home to support your child’s learning.   Plans are updated each term and sent home.

Reading Books

All children and young people are encouraged to engage in reading and develop a love of stories.  We have a wide range of reading books, sensory books and big books to support the learning styles and levels for each child.  Every Friday, your child will receive a new reading book. Please encourage your child to engage with the characters and stories.

Some pupils will receive homework in English and Maths to support their learning.  If your child is finding homework a challenge please come into school so we can discuss it together.

.E. sessions take place each Wednesday.  Please ensure a full P.E. kit is brought to school and that items are clearly labelled to avoid confusion. Swimming sessions take place on Wednesday.

Our topic this term is on dance.

We do cookery every Tuesday.   Please let us know if your child has any food allergies. This half term we are making Christmas foods.

Work Related Learning

As park of supporting young people to develop their skills, your child will take part in work related learning experiences.  This term your child is going to Netherton Library. Over the winter months staff from the library service bring books to school to share with the class. Our targets are to learn to listen to stories as a group, to wait and take turn within a group.

Spring Term 2017

Happy New Year.

We hope that you all had a very Happy Christmas.

We have lots of new and exciting things to look forward to this term, starting with a visit from the library service and our own class performance of Cinderella, to bring a close to the pantomime season,  Wednesday 25th Jan 2017 at 2.00pm.

During this cookery session the students' aim was to experience spicy tastes and smells. This involved them smelling and tasting the ginger.
Pancake Tuesday 2017
This was one of our fantastic cookery lessons. The students were able to make communicate effectively when deciding which toppings they'd like to use for their pancakes.
This was part of our World of Work section in our curriculum. The students decided to make Easter baskets to sell on our class' stall.

Science Week 2017. We were set a challenge to find a way to drop a water balloon without it bursting and guess what... We won!!

This activity was a science experiment which involved the whole class to work as a team. The students used different materials to cover the water balloon so that it wouldn’t bust when dropped.

During this session, the students explored the different smells, tastes and textures of all of the ingredients. They made choices between which tools would be needed and also explored the sounds of the different tools being used.

The focus of this session was making choices of which materials and tools the students may need.

When making their Easter bonnets, the students explored and used lots of different art materials. They then took part in the parade as a whole class during the assembly in front of the whole school.

During our box book sessions the students are working on anticipating the sequence in the stories, participating as a whole group and listening and comprehension.

Friday afternoon on the RAP enjoying the sun!

The students have been learning about directional language and so Ben and Bethany enjoyed going forward and backward on the swing. The students also enjoyed going up and down on the apparatus and exploring different textures, like the sand.

We had so much fun trying out all the different sports on sports day this year. We won the spirit award!
We wore red and had a cake sale to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. We had an exciting visit from a big red cuddly heart too!
This term for our enterprise project we have been making hanging baskets to sell. We have been exploring the different textures of the soil and flowers as well as smelling them. We have also been selling raffle tickets for people to win a hanging basket.
After all of our hard work this year our staff thought we deserved a treat! We had a great time on the RAP!
