Welcome to Thames class!
Hello and welcome to Thames class! We are key stage three. Please have a scroll down our class page to find out about all the exciting things we get up to!
Thames Trio (staff)
Teacher - Abi
TA's - Cathie and Claire
We use dojo to ensure that there is a good link between home and school life, and so that parents and teachers are able to work collaboratively. This is really beneficial to parents as we are able to share messages throughout the school day. If there is anything you wish to be informed about or if you have any questions or concerns then please message Abi.
Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
These set out the priority educational targets that your child is working on for the term. IEPs are updated each term and sent home. If there is anything in particular that you would like us to be working on please just let us know.
All children and young people are encouraged to engage in reading and develop a love of reading and listening to stories and non-fiction books. Pupils in Thames class will have their reading books sent home on a Friday to be returned on a Monday. Pupils will read both independently and to staff members every day.
Homework is sent home every Friday to be returned completed by the following Thursday. This enables parents to be aware of what their child has been learning about each week and enhances the children's knowledge outside of the classroom. Homework will be set around particular topics or concepts we have been learning and will be varied across the curriculum.
We kindly request that you send in £2 per week. This contributes to any weekly resources, snacks in class and cookery ingredients. This may be sent in termly, or weekly. Thank you.
Autumn 1 - Motion and Movement
Throughout this term we will explore a world in which we can bring to life through our imagination and ability to use linkages, leavers, buzzers and motors. Throughout our journey we will look at a variety of toys, exploring how their mechanisms aid their movement, as well as designing and making our own moving toys and ideas.
In Literacy the book we will cover 'Gangsta Granny' by David Walliams. Literacy is taught in a series of lessons to build up pupils punctuation, spelling, grammar and vocabulary choices.
This half term we will focus some of our time on 'Place Value'. We will be working with numbers up to and over 1000. After, we will use our place value knowledge to start to be introduced to column addition and subtraction with 3 digit numbers.
Our History lessons will delve into the History of Toys, understanding toys development through the years. We will have the chance to look at some old toys and new toys, making comparisons between them. A high-quality history education will help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. It will inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past
We will look at 'Forces and Motion' in Science, understanding how things move with particular focus on friction.
P.E. sessions take place on a Friday morning in Thames class. Children will have access to a wide variety of sports aimed to teach them team work, overcoming challenge, goal setting and to improve physical development. Combining Science and PE, pupils will be able to learn about keeping fit and healthy by having a deep understanding of what different foods can do for our body and why exercise is so important for our physical AND mental health.
Swimming - Please make sure that swimming kit's are in school each week.
We do cookery every Wednesday morning, please let us know if your child has any food allergies. Just a reminder to say it is really appreciated if pupils come into school each week with £2 which includes snack and cookery ingredients.
