This half term our topic is 'How Does that Building Stay Up?'

In Literacy, we will be reading 'The Three Little Pigs', 'When I Build with Blocks' and 'Hansel and Gretel'.

'The Three Little Pigs'

We loved reading 'The Three Little Pigs' and have had lots of opportunities to develop our gross and fine motor skills (prerequisites for writing).

We have been developing our fine motor skills and understanding of the story by building each house for the pigs. We used Twiglets and lolly-ice sticks for the stick house, straw for the straw house and weetabix for the brick house (with icing as the mortar!)

Some of our children have been developing their pincer grip by using tweezers to pick out pig tails and colour matching them to the correct bottoms. Some have been developing their ability to retell the story and put the main events in chronological order.

We have enjoyed wearing a wolf hat, tail and pig snouts to re-enact the story - especially out on the playground and in our PE lessons where we have been learning how to play 'What's the Time Mr. Wolf?'

We have been practicing our letter formation during our writing and mark-making sessions.

We LOVE 'Dough Disco' to help us develop our fine motor skills - any excuse for a boogie!
