Ladybirds

Welcome to Ladybirds 2021-2022 !

Ladybirds are a fun loving, energetic and enthusiastic class that love to learn new exciting things. We will be having lots of fun exploring a range of themes and lessons, enabling us all to build relationships and explore new friendships in our new school. We hope you enjoy looking at our page and seeing all our lovely photos!

Autumn term 1

Curriculum

This half term our topic will be 'Muck, mess and mixtures'. We will be learning through creativity. 

We will be making our own colour monster, exploring colours and emotions and celebrating Halloween with our last story before half term. We will also be focusing upon our fine motor skills during our art and cookery lessons. 

Literacy

In Literacy the books we will cover this half will be 'Colour monster goes to school ' 'The day the crayons quit' and 'Monster Max shark Spaghetti'. Sensory props, food, songs and puppets will be used to encourage the children to engage with the stories. We will be using lots of colours, slime, spaghetti and puppets this half term.

Maths

This half term we will focus some of our time on looking at Heavy and light objects, Positional language and Numbers. We will also be focusing our time on our individual maths boxes as always to consolidate our learning.  

Theme

During our topic lessons we will be looking at creativity, and how we can be creative and experimental ? We will also be looking at famous artists, science experiments, treasure hunts and exploring the forest school.

PE

P.E. sessions take place each Wednesday afternoon for Ladybirds class. Please ensure a full PE kit is brought to school and that items are clearly labelled to avoid confusion. Swimming sessions will take place on a Thursday morning. ( I will inform you when this will start)

This half term in PE we will be practicing our balancing skills and star jumps.

 

Cookery

We do cookery every Monday afternoon, please let us know if your child has any food allergies, and this half term to continue with our creativity topic and we will be making rainbow cookies, sandwiches, decorating biscuits and making colourful fruit salads.

Autumn term 2

Curriculum

This half term is all about going on a 'Journey'.  We will be looking at all different types of journeys. From our own journey from us being a baby to growing up, journey to space and learning about space and best of all taking Barney bear on a journey. 

This half term every Friday one lucky Ladybird will take home Barney bear and take him on a journey for the weekend. We can not wait to see what he gets up to along the way. 

Literacy

In Literacy the books we will cover this half term will be 'Whatever next ' 'Going on a bear hunt' and 'Goodnight space man'. We will also be reading some lovely Christmas stories and completing some fun activities. Sensory props, food, songs and puppets will be used to encourage the children to engage with the stories. We will be using lots of natural resources this term. 

Maths

This half term we will focus some of our time on looking at Fractions, time of day/ telling the time and  Numbers. We will also be focusing our time on our individual maths boxes as always to consolidate our learning.  

Theme

Our topic lessons will be around different types of Journeys. We will look at our own personal journey, guessing our own baby photos, we will be looking at travelling to space and a journey through the solar system and also Barney bears own journey with his ladybird friends. 

PE

P.E. sessions take place each Wednesday afternoon for Ladybirds class. Please ensure a full PE kit is brought to school and that items are clearly labelled to avoid confusion. Swimming sessions will take place on a Thursday morning. ( I will inform you when this will start)

This half term in PE we will be practicing our throwing and catching skills, along with our kicking skills.

 

Cookery

We do cookery every Friday morning, please let us know if your child has any food allergies. This half term our cookery lessons will include making Barney bear out of bread and chocolate spread, melting snowman biscuits, bear paws, mine pies and plenty more yummy foods.

Christmas 2021 activities

Spring term 1

Curriculum

This half term we are going to be looking at 'Ourselves' and how we keep ourselves healthy.  We will be looking at healthy foods and unhealthy foods, how we look after ourselves physically and mentally, along with how we look after our teeth and learning about who we might go to see if we do not feel well or something hurts.

 

Literacy

In Literacy the books we will cover this half term will be 'Handas Surprise', 'Brush the germs away' and 'Joe Wicks Burpee bears'. We will use a range of sensory props, food, songs and puppets to encourage engagement. This half term during our literacy lesson we will be tasting a range of fruits, keeping active and learning all about how we look after our teeth.  

Maths

This half term we will focus some of our time on looking at Fractions, time of day/ telling the time and  Numbers. We will also be focusing our time on our individual maths boxes as always to consolidate our learning. Ladybirds will have group session, along with 1:1 teaching time to explore and enhance our learning with our IEP targets. 

Theme

Our topic lessons will be around living a healthy lifestyle and how we can look after ourselves and others. We will be exploring and tasting various foods, keeping physically active, focusing upon our mental health and how we are feeling. Along with our day to day routines that are carried out throughout the day to ensure we stay healthy. We will continue to practice hand washing, independent dressing and how we can look after our teeth.

Spring term 2

Curriculum

This half term we are going to be looking at the 'Seaside'.  We will be looking at what we like to do at the beach, different textures, recycling and the ocean. We will be talking about what we need to go on holiday and playing with lots of sand and water. Also this half term we will be enjoying lots of Easter activities and having lots of chocolate fun!!

 

Literacy

In Literacy the books we will cover this half term will be 'Harry saves the Ocean', 'Fidgety fish' and lots of Easter stories. We will use a range of sensory props, food, songs and puppets to encourage engagement. This half term during our literacy lesson we will be focusing upon sentence building and using colourful semantics to help us. We shall be looking at key elements of a sentence, including capital letters, adjectives and full stops. 

Maths

This half term we will focus some of our time on looking at measurement, Numbers, one more and one less. We will also be focusing our time on our individual maths boxes as always to consolidate our learning. Ladybirds will have group session, along with 1:1 teaching time to explore and enhance our learning with our IEP targets. This half term we will also be looking at measuring ourselves. We will do this at the beginning of the term and then again at the end of the term to see how much we have all grown. 

Theme

Our topic lessons will be around recycling and how we can look after the planet, along with exploring different sea creatures and distinguishing the difference between animals that live in the sea and animals that live in the forest. We love exploring different environments and seeing what habitats certain animals need to survive.

Summer term 1

Curriculum

This half term we are going to be looking at the 'Towers, Tunnels and Turrets'.  We will be looking at different castles, building castles, creating flags, looking at different flags, and sculptures.  We will be making our very own castles, shields and lots of role play.

Literacy

In Literacy the books we will cover this half term will be 'Rapunzel', 'Peep inside the castle ' and 'Zog'. We will use a range of sensory props, food, songs and puppets to encourage engagement. This half term during our literacy lesson we will continue to focus upon sentence building and using colourful semantics to help us. We shall be looking at key elements of a sentence, including capital letters, adjectives and full stops. 

Maths

This half term we will focus some of our time on looking at Numbers, 2D shapes and 3D shapes. We will be looking at the properties of different shapes also.  We will also be focusing our time on our individual maths boxes as always to consolidate our learning. Ladybirds will have group session, along with 1:1 teaching time to explore and enhance our learning with our IEP targets. This half term we will also be looking at building 3D buildings using biscuits, sugar cubes and other edible foods. 

Theme

Our topic lessons will be around history, science and art. We will be looking at different materials during science when we come to build out castle and make 3D buildings. We will also be looking at what materials are strong and can hold the most weight. Within history we will be looking at old castles and what features a castle has and why. As our theme is very creative we will be making lots of sculptures using clay, cardboard and paper mache. 

PE

P.E. sessions take place each Wednesday afternoon for Ladybirds class. Please ensure a full PE kit is brought to school and that items are clearly labelled to avoid confusion. Swimming sessions will take place on a Friday.

This half term we will be focusing upon yoga and moving our bodies into different shapes to make towers and bridges. We will also be practicing our gymnastic skills.

We do cookery every Friday morning, please let us know if your child has any food allergies. This half term our cookery lessons will reflect our topic. We will be making buildings out of rice crispy bricks, constructing buildings using marshmallows and making edible castles.
