Welcome to the Owls class!
This half term we have been reading the story 'Handa's Surprise'. this gave us the opportunity to learn about different cultures and countries, to practise our counting skills and learn about different animals (as well as giving us the chance to taste lots of different yummy fruit!). We have been sorting items and money too in Maths, and have been learning about electricity and safety in Science.
We have also welcomed a new pupil and friend into our class, making us very happy Owls!
We ask parents and carers to return the home/school diary each day, as this will enable the class teacher to provide comments and information about your child's day in school. If there are particular things you wish to be informed about, please speak to me.
Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
This plan sets out the educational targets that your child is working on for the term. There is a section in the plan which provides parents and carers with activities or tasks you can do at home to support your child's learning. Plans are updated each term and sent home.
All children and young people are encouraged to engage in reading and develop a love of stories. we have a wide range of reading books, sensory books and big books to support the learning styles and levels for each child. Every Friday your child will receive a new reading book. Please encourage your child to engage with the characters and the stories.
Some pupils will receive homework in English and maths to support their learning. If your child is finding homework a challenge please come into school so we can discuss it together.
P.E. sessions take place each Friday. Please ensure a full P.E. kit is brought into school and that items are clearly labelled to avoid confusion. Swimming sessions take place each Monday. Our topics this term will include balance and moving and water safety and confidence.
We do cookery every Tuesday. Please let us know if your child has any allergies. this term we have been learning about nutrition and kitchen safety as well as cooking and making soup and sandwiches.
All pupils in the class take part in an enterprise activity each half term. Enterprise supports children and young people to use their Numeracy and Literacy skills in a different context. This term we are making and selling items for Mothers day and Easter. Pupils are learning about designing and making a finished product and handling money.
