Welcome to the Owls

We are a lively and enthusiastic KS1 class. We have 8 Outstanding Owls who enjoy a multi-sensory approach to learning and love getting messy! We hope that you enjoy looking at all of our exciting lessons and topics that we are learning about this year. Our interests, learning styles and sensory needs are incorporated into activities and lessons to help motivate and engage us. We enjoy learning both inside and outside of the classroom.

Autumn

This term our topic is 'The Weather'. We will be learning about different types of weather and exploring how to dress for the type of weather. We will be visiting the Arctic, the Rainforest and the Desert to find out what the weather is like in each location. We will be building dens, igloos and making sensory symbols.

In Literacy we will be reading 'Wow said the Owl', 'The Smartest Giant in Town' and 'Ten Spooky Skeletons'. We enjoy sensory group sessions as well as individual activities linked to our targets.

In Maths we will be learning about 'Big and Small' exploring objects of interest in different sizes. We will also complete practical box work linked to our targets.

In Science our topic is 'Moving and Growing' we will be learning about the human body and skeleton. We will explore differences between human and animal skeletons and dissect a roast chicken to find the bones!

General Information

Home School Diaries

We ask parents and carers to return the home school diary each day, as this will enable the class teacher to provide comments and information about your child's day in school. If there are particular things you wish to be informed about, please speak with the class teacher.

Individual Education Plans (IEPs)

This plan sets out educational targets that your child is working on for the term. If you require any ideas for activities to support your child’s learning please speak to the class teacher. Plans are updated each term and sent home.

Reading Books

All children and young people are encouraged to engage in reading and develop a love of stories. We have a wide range of reading books, sensory books and big books to support the learning styles and levels for each child.

Every Friday your child's reading book will be sent home to read over the weekend. Could this please be returned on Monday morning.

Class Funds

We kindly ask that you send in £2 each week. This contributes to snack and cookery ingredients that we use each week.

P.E

P.E sessions take place on a Tuesday afternoon. Please ensure a full P.E kit is brought to school and that items are clearly labelled to avoid confusion.

Swimming sessions take place on a Monday morning. Please ensure a swimming costume, towel, swim pads and swimming aids [if necessary] are sent in.

Cookery

We do cookery on a Friday afternoon. Please let us know if your child has any food allergies.

Enterprise

All pupils in the class take part in an enterprise activity each half term/term. Enterprise supports children and young people to use their Numeracy and Literacy skills in a different context.
