Welcome to our class

We do hope that you enjoy looking at our class page through the year. We are a busy, happy class who enjoy a wide range of activities designed for both our academic and social progress.

 Each  term we will focus and learn about different topics within our subjects This year our lessons will include English, Maths and Phonics, our 'theme' afternoons (which will incorporate History and Geography and Art & DT), Science, Computing, PSHE, Swimming, PE, Cookery and all the other wonderful things that come up throughout the year.

We will also continue to develop our communication, through a mixture of verbal language, PECs, visual supports and signing. 

We are looking forward to a fantastic year and hope you enjoy looking at this page to find out about our adventures! 



Autumn Term 1

Our first topic of this year is 'Weather around the World' . We will also be settling back into our class routine, getting to know new friends and staff, sharing toys and working on our independent skills. This half term also includes a Harvest Festival Assembly. We hope you can join us.



General Information


Home School Dairies

We ask families and carers to return the home / school diary each day, as this will enable the class staff to provide comments and information about your child’s day in school. If there are particular things you wish to be informed about, please speak with the class teacher.


Individual Education Plans (IEP’s)

These set out the priority educational targets that your child is working on for the term. IEPs are updated each term and sent home. If there is anything that you would particularly like us to working on please just let us know.


Reading Books

All children and young people are encouraged to engage in reading and develop a love of stories. We have a wide range of reading books, sensory books and big books to support the learning styles and levels for each child. Every Friday, your child will receive a new reading book. Please encourage your child to engage with the characters and stories and fill in the reading record to let your child's class staff know how they have done.  



Some pupils will receive homework in English and Maths to support their learning. If homework is becoming a challenge, please let your child's class teacher know so that we can discuss it together.


Snack and Cookery Money

We kindly request that you send in £2 a week. This will go towards snack and cookery ingredients that we use each week.



PE sessions take place each Thursday afternoon. Please ensure a full PE kit is sent into school and trhat all items are clearly marked with your children's names to avoid confusion. Our topics are balance, ball skills and swimming. 



We do cookery sessions every Friday . please let us know if your child has any food allergies. kindly request that you send in £2 a week. This will go towards snack and cookery ingredients that we use each week.



All pupils in Kingfishers class regularly participate in 'Enterprise' activities. Enterprise supports children and young people to use thier Literacy and Numeracy skills in a different context. This term will involve making/selling gifts items for Christmas.
