Welcome to our class
We do hope that you enjoy looking at our class page through the year. We are a busy, happy class who enjoy a wide range of activities designed for both our academic and social progress.
Each term we will focus and learn about different topics within our subjects This year our lessons will include English, Maths and Phonics, our 'theme' afternoons (which will incorporate History and Geography and Art & DT), Science, Computing, PSHE, Swimming, PE, MFL, Cookery and all the other wonderful things that come up throughout the year.
We will also continue to develop our communication, through a mixture of verbal language, PECs, visual supports and signing.
We are looking forward to a fantastic year and hope you enjoy looking at this page to find out about our adventures!
Home School Diaries
We ask families and carers to return the home / school diary each day, as this will enable the class staff to provide comments and information about your child’s day in school. If there are particular things you wish to be informed about, please speak with the class teacher.
Individual Education Plans (IEP’s)
These set out the priority educational targets that your child is working on for the term. IEPs are updated each term and sent home. If there is anything that you would particularly like us to working on please just let us know.
All children and young people are encouraged to engage in reading and develop a love of stories. We have a wide range of reading books, sensory books and big books to support the learning styles and levels for each child. Every Friday, your child will receive a new reading book. Please encourage your child to engage with the characters and stories and fill in the reading record to let your child's class staff know how they have done.
Some pupils will receive homework in English and Maths to support their learning. If homework is becoming a challenge, please let your child's class teacher know so that we can discuss it together.
Snack and Cookery Money
We kindly request that you send in £2 a week. This will go towards snack and cookery ingredients that we use each week.
PE sessions take place each Thursday afternoon. Please ensure a full PE kit is sent into school and that all items are clearly marked with your children's names to avoid confusion. Our topics are collaborative group games and ball skills .
We do cookery sessions every Friday . please let us know if your child has any food allergies. We kindly request that you send in £2 a week. This will go towards snack and cookery ingredients that we use each week.
All pupils in Kingfishers class regularly participate in 'Enterprise' activities. Enterprise supports children and young people to use thier Literacy and Numeracy skills in a different context. This term will involve making/selling gifts items for Easter and Mother's day.
Our topics this term are: 'The Ice Age' and then 'Ancient Egypt' after half term. We are finding out and investigating physical processes and temperatures and comparing warm and cold items-and warm and cold weather too! Hopefully, as the weather improves, we will take our learning outside the classroom and enjoy more outdoor trips and spend time in our own forest school area. We are looking forward to regular visits to our 'RAP' park too!
Our topic this term is 'Water Worlds' ! We have had a fantastic start to this subject by visiting the 'Blue Planet Aquarium'! of this year. We will also be developing our social communication and understanding skills by working and playing with our friends, following the class routine, getting to know new friends and staff, sharing toys and working on our independent skills. This term also includes an Easter celebration. We hope you can join us, and will keep you posted with updates via this website and through the school newsletter.
In the Autumn term we have been busy getting to know each other and getting to know our new routines. we have made lovely items to sell as part of our school 'Enterprise' curriculum, and also beautiful gift to bring home too!
