Hi everyone, and welcome to Snowdon we hope you enjoy looking at all of the fantastic activities we have took part in this term and hope you can agree we have had lots of fun.
This half term we have been focusing on Signs and Symbols as part of our Literacy curriculum, also we have taken part in Poetry and Drama activities including Jabberwocky and the Three Witches 'Double Double Toil and Trouble. Our Maths work this terms has been related to Measures where we have completed tasks related to weight, volume and length activities including cooking and shopping. In Science we have been focusing on machines in the home and community. Our leisure activities have included swimming, cycling and visits to the RAP. We have also made Diwali candles to celebrate the festival of light.
Our class team Snowdon consists of 4 staff members.
Isobel's 18th Birthday
Isobel had an amazing time during her 18th Birthday party with all of her friends she had so much fun on the bouncy castle and got lots of lovely presents and cards.
Trip out to the Liverpool Cathedral
We enjoyed our trip to the cathedral, we lit a candle and said a prayer.
Toys R Us
We went to Toys R Us in Warrington, we had a lovely walk around and got to see all the different toys that were in the shop.
Science Activity
We took art in a science activity in school with water bottles, we used them as rockets to set off on the RAP which we really enjoyed.
Red Nose Day
We done lots of different activities today for comic relief, we made crispy cakes, craft activities and posed with our red noses on.
African Art Competition
We made a African inspired art canvas in class which will be put forward in a competition in London.
Sensory Day in School
We had a sensory based day today in our class which we really enjoyed, we went to the dark room and played on bubble wrap which we particularly enjoyed.
Trip to Marine Gardens
We went on a trip to Crosby and walked around the marine gardens, we really enjoyed this trip and asked Mr. Black if we could come back again for a picnic!
Mothers Day
We made our lovely mums plants in class today to show them how much we love them.
Egg drop competition
Today we used different materials to create a package to support our egg for the competition this week. The aim of the competition is to drop an egg from 2 meters without it breaking. The rules of the competition are to use only recycled items to protect the egg. Wish us luck!
Curling
Here you can see us playing curling as a class team. We had lots of fun and enjoyed making the most of our leisure time.
Pancake Day !!! and trip to the Chinese Arch In Liverpool
We have had lots of fun in school today. This morning we went on a class trip to the Chinese arch in Liverpool where we got to see all of the different colours on the arch, we also had a flip pancake competition in class which we really enjoyed doing. Take a look at our photos below to see how much fun we were having.
Palm House
We went on a class trip to Sefton park and visited the palm house. We enjoyed seeing some of the trees and plants. We also really enjoyed seeing the peter pan statue. We also visited penny lane and got our picture taken next to the sign.
General Information
We ask parents and carers to return the home/school diary each day, as this will enable the class teacher to provide comments and information about your child's day at school. If there are particular things you wish to be informed about, please speak with your child's class team.
Individual Education Plan (IEP's)
This Plan sets out educational targets that your child is working on for the term. There is a section in the plan which provides parents and carers with activities or tasks that you can do at home to support your child's learning. Plans are updated each term and sent home.
Reading Books/ Homework
All children and young people are encouraged to engage in reading and develop a love of stories. We have a wide range of reading books, sensory books and big books to support the learning styles and levels for each child. Every Friday your child will receive a new reading book. Please encourage you child to engage with the characters and stories.
Leisure activities
We take part in leisure activities each week such as Swimming, Cycling and Basketball. Please ensure a full P.E. kit /swimming kit is brought to school and that items are clearly labelled to avoid confusion.
Swimming sessions take place on Monday as well as cycling.
Basketball takes place on a Wednesday and Friday.
Cookery
We do cookery sessions every Monday Morning. During cookery we help prepare the food and items which are needed for our lesson. Each week we make various dishes relating to our topics.
Enterprise
All pupils in class take part in an Enterprise activity each week/half term/term. Enterprise supports children and young people to use their numeracy and literacy skills in a different context. This term we have made Christmas cards which will be getting sold in our Christmas fayre. Each pupil thoroughly enjoyed taking part in designing each card and selected the colours they wished to use, Numeracy was also brought into this activity as the pupils had to arrange the cards into packs of five to be sold.
Mathematics
The Maths curriculum offers a personalised curriculum in which pupils learn, progress and achieve. Our aim is to provide pupils with learning opportunities were they can build on skills and generalise numeracy skills across a wide range of topics and in different settings,supporting their transition to adult life.
following the Key Stage 3 curriculum we comply to the ASDAN framework.
