Autumn 1:

This half term we have...

  • In Numeracy we have looked at number and the number system. We have worked extremely hard looking at numbers by adding, taking away and looking at number bonds. We have also used our Numeracy lessons within P.E to keep score when we are playing games.
  • In Literacy this half term we looked at the book Handa's Surprise, we had lots of fun tasting the different fruits, exploring writing and starting to create WOW sentences. We also have explored Harvest time and created our own Acrostic poems. Each Monday we also like to write an account of what we have experienced over the weekend - this helps us practice our letter formation and sentence structure.
  • In Science we have had lots of fun experiencing solids, liquids and gases. We took part in lots of experiments to turn materials into states of matter such as; making ice-cream, melting chocolate and making balloons blow up using everyday things you might find in your cupboard!
  • This term we have started our Enterprise scheme 'The Great British Bake-Off'. Every Wednesday we will decide what to make as a class such as baked goods and make them during our cookery session. We will then sell these on a Thursday - all profits will help fund our class pet and educational days out to support our learning.

General Information

We ask parents and carers to return the home / school diary each day, as this will enable the class teacher to provide comments and information about your child’s day in school. If there are particular things you wish to be informed about, please speak with me.

Individual Education Plan(IEP’s)

This plan sets out educational targets that your child is working on for the term.  There is a section in the plan which provides parents and carers with activities or tasks you can do at home to support your child’s learning.   Plans are updated each term and sent home.

Reading Books

All children and young people are encouraged to engage in reading and develop a love of stories.  We have a wide range of reading books, sensory books and big books to support the learning styles and levels for each child.  Every Friday, your child will receive a new reading book. Please encourage your child to engage with the characters and stories.

Homework

Some pupils will receive homework in English and Maths to support their learning.  If your child is finding homework a challenge please come into school so we can discuss it together.

P.E.

P .E. sessions take place each Monday. Our topics this term are; Ball skills, Team games, Athletics and Gymnastics.  Please ensure a full P.E. kit is brought to school and that items are clearly labelled to avoid confusion. Swimming sessions take place every two weeks on a Wednesday morning at The Meadows.
