Bendrigg Residential May 2019

What a fantastic time our pupils have had at the Bendrigg Trust Residential! The group consisted of 7 pupils and 5 staff so it was a lovely big group and everyone got stuck in and had lots of fun! The pupils were from a mix of Secondary and Post 16 classes so it was a great mix and everybody got on so well with jam packed days with some amazing activities!

Day 1 -

We arrived just in time for lunch and met our instructors and lead instructor Mel who would be here to help us throughout our visit! Once settled and our beds were made we went for a slide down the tube slide, tackled the ropes course, cycled through the grounds and even had time for a visit to the indoor cave. For tea it was a chicken roast dinner which everybody enjoyed. This was followed by an Easter egg hunt down to the Yurt. Once in the Yurt we learnt how to toast marshmallows on the open fire. Mel brought some hot chocolate along and we had some songs with the lovely instruments. It was then time for tea and toast and bed!

Day 2 -

Surprisingly everyone slept very well even though it was some pupils first time staying away from home!  Once up and dressed we were ready for our breakfast at 8.30am. It was the works bacon, hash browns and lots and lots of toast which fueled us for our morning activities!

We encountered the climbing wall and absailing which we all thoroughly enjoyed. Some of the pupils even moved onto the much harder climbs. Climbs I have never had pupils attempt in any other groups before (We were very proud of them). After lunch we zip wired, enjoyed the sensory swing and chilled as a whole group in the sensory room. The pupils could choose their own music which was lovely... we had a lot of Greatest Showman tunes picked (which was fine by me)!! It was pizza and chips for tea followed by chocolate moose which went down a treat by all! Movie night commenced in the social room with all the pupils (and staff) sprawled out on bean bags and duvet covers just like a real sleepover!

A well deserved rest I think in preparation for our journey home tomorrow!
